UPPER SCHOOL LANGUAGES

Grade 7 / Latin Five
This course will introduce both basic and complex grammatical constructions to better develop the students understanding of the composition of Latin. These grammatical constructions inclued: (1) The declension of nouns and their uses;   (2) the declension of adjectives and their uses; (3) the declension of pronouns and their uses; (4) the conjugation of verbs and their uses. Students will begin to translate the Aeneid applying grammatical constructions and understanding.

Berean students will: 
• Master the declension of nouns, adjectives, and pronouns and their uses.
• Master the conjugation of verbs of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 3rd -io conjugations and their uses.
• Master the conjugation of esse and its uses.
• Recognize and form complex grammatical constructions.
• Develop the ability to translate the Aeneid.
• Discover ancient culture pertaining to primary texts.
• Measure the discipline of Latin and the understanding of ancient cultural values against Biblical standards.

Grade 8 / Latin Six

Grade 9 / Latin Seven
This course will introduce both basic and complex grammatical constructions to better develop the students understanding of the composition of Latin. These grammatical constructions inclued: (1) The declension of nouns and their uses;   (2) the declension of adjectives and their uses; (3) the declension of pronouns and their uses; (4) the conjugation of verbs and their uses. Students will begin to translate the Aeneid applying grammatical constructions and understanding. They will learn to scan the Aeneid.

Berean students will: 
• Master the declension of nouns, adjectives, and pronouns and their uses.
• Master the conjugation of verbs of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 3rd -io conjugations and their uses.
• Master the conjugation of esse and its uses.
• Recognize and form complex grammatical constructions.
• Develop the ability to translate and scan the Aeneid.
• Discover ancient culture pertaining to primary texts.
• Measure the discipline of Latin and the understanding of ancient cultural
• Values against Biblical standards.
• Compose their own stories using the words of the Aeneid.

Grade 10 / Greek One
This course is the introduction of Classical Greek.  Students will be introduced to the alphabet, vocabulary, grammar, and syntax essential for translating Classical Greek.   They memorize and learn the use of  the declensions of nouns, article, personal, demonstrative, and reflexive pronouns. They memorize and learn the use of the (1) present and imperfect tenses of luw, timaw, poiew, and dhlow; (2) the future of luw and kathairw;  (3) and the aorist of elusa and elipon. Using both inductive and deductive learning techniques, students will gain a grammatical understanding essential to translation and exegesis of Classical Greek.

Berean students will: 
• Master reading and writing of Greek alphabet.
• Become familiar with the pronunciation of Classical Greek.
• Master selected Greek vocabulary.
• Conjugate and translate in present, imperfect, future, and aorist tenses, three voices, and four moods.
• Decline all the nouns, adjectives and pronouns.
• Develop an understanding of Greek syntax and improve translation abilities.
• Measure the discipline of Greek and the understanding of ancient cultural values against Biblical standards.

Grade 11 / Greek Two
This course is the introduction of Classical Greek.  Students will be introduced to the alphabet, vocabulary, grammar, and syntax essential for translating Classical Greek.   They review the use of  the declensions of nouns, article, personal, demonstrative, and reflexive pronouns. They review the use and conjugation of the (1) present and imperfect tenses of luw, timaw, poiew, and dhlow; (2) the future of luw and kathairw;  (3) and the aorist of elusa and elipon. They learn (1) the perfect and pluperfect tense of luw; (2) perfect and pluperfect middle passive of luw; (3) the aorist and future passive of luw; (4) the present tense of hihmi, deiknumi, isthmi, diwmi, and eimi. Using both inductive and deductive learning techniques, students will gain a grammatical understanding essential to translation and exegesis of Classical Greek.

Berean students will: 
• Master selected Greek vocabulary.
• Conjugate and translate in all tenses, three voices, and four moods.
• Conjugate and translate all mi verbs.
• Develop an understanding of Greek syntax and improve translation abilities.
• Measure the discipline of Greek and the understanding of ancient cultural values against Biblical standards.

 

Grade 12 / Greek Three
This course is the introduction of Koine Greek.  Students will be introduced to the alphabet, vocabulary, grammar, and syntax essential for translating Koine Greek. They review the use of  the declensions of nouns, article, personal, demonstrative, and reflexive pronouns. They review the use and conjugation of the (1) present and imperfect tenses of luw, timaw, poiew, and dhlow; (2) the future of luw and kathairw;  (3) and the aorist of elusa and elipon; (4) the perfect and pluperfect tense of luw; (5) perfect and pluperfect middle passive of luw; (6) the aorist and future passive of luw; (7) the present tense of hihmi, deiknumi, isthmi, diwmi, and eimi. They will learn the conjugation and use of (1) the imperfect tense of hihmi, deiknumi, isthmi, didwmi; (2) the aorist tense of ihmi, histhmi, and didwmi; the perfect and pluperfect tense of histhmi; (3) and the participles of all the verbs above. Using both inductive and deductive learning techniques, students will gain a grammatical understanding essential to translation and exegesis of Koine Greek.

Berean students will: 
• Increase fluency in the syntax of Koine Greek.
• Read the Koine Greek for comprehension, in order to develop a better understanding of the Word of God.
• Memorize the morphology of participles.
