PHILOSOPHY of EDUCATION

BEREAN ACADEMY provides an exceptional education based on classical and Christian method and content. We understand that curriculum serves method and method serves mission. It is this order of priorities that guides our decisions regarding both method and curriculum. Our over-arching goal is to teach a comprehensive world and life view that equips each student to live purposefully in the service of both God and man.
CLASSICAL METHOD: We seek to implement our mission through the classical method called the Trivium. The Berean student receives rigorous instruction in the grammar of all pertinent subjects, the logic or ordered relationship of such subjects, and the ways these subjects may be presented in an elegant, persuasive and appealing manner. Berean emphasizes the grammar, logic and rhetoric of each subject in a proportion that gives full consideration to the age and abilities of the student. Classical Method
CURRICULUM: Berean's classical method is served by a curriculum that stresses interaction with the world's great classics. Many are found in The Great Books and other canons of western thought. The greatest of books, the Bible, is fully integrated into all subjects at each level. Additionally, the upper school student interacts with some of the more influential works of modern and postmodern culture, providing an understanding of the worldviews the student will encounter at the college and university level and in the broader culture. Curriculum
The entire object of true education is to make people not merely to do the right things, but to enjoy them; not merely industrious, but to love industry; not merely learned, but to love knowledge; not merely pure, but to love purity; not merely just,
but to hunger and thirst after justice.
- John Ruskin
