BEREAN STATEMENT OF FAITH

We live in a time when opinions have replaced absolutes. Consequently, subscribing to a statement of faith is not fashionable. However, at Berean Academy it is essential to the mission of the school that all faculty, staff and board members subscribe to a statement of faith that reflects biblical absolutes. Therefore the Berean board, faculty and staff boldly affirm that:

  • the sixty-six books of the Bible as originally given by divine revelation are the only inerrant Word of God and therefore the supreme and final authority for faith and life;
  • there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent;
  • the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is fully God and fully man, is demonstrated in His virgin birth, His miracles and His sinless life and that He is the Christ of Old Testament prophecy;
  • the vicarious substitutionary death of Jesus Christ on the cross made atonement for the sin of the world and is sufficient for all who repent and believe;
  • our Lord Jesus Christ rose bodily, ascended to the right hand of the Father and will return visibly to this earth to judge the world in righteousness;
  • both the saved and the lost will be resurrected, they who are saved to eternal life and they who are lost to damnation;
  • the Triune God created man in His own image to reflect holiness by obedience to His commandments. Humanity has fallen in this responsibility, entered a state of moral corruption, is estranged from its Creator, and lost eternally;
  • salvation from eternal punishment and restoration of fellowship with God is secured only by His grace through faith in Christ, who bore our sins in His own body on the cross. Only by receiving Christ, through the Person of the Holy Spirit into one’s inner being, is a person justified before God;
  • the Holy Spirit thus indwells all who receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord and that the Holy Spirit is responsible for the regeneration of believers and for the continuing work of sanctification;
  • the church is the body of Christ: Christians who are called to be identified with Christ in baptism, to remember His death in the Lord’s Supper, and to preach the gospel to all nations;
  • the faith of believers should be visible in concrete forms: a model of personal and social behavior; and
  • as Christians we seek to be faithful disciples of Christ, enduring in love, obedience and unity until He comes again.
